PADI

During my time at Exmouth I got to do my PADI Open Water Dive Course and spend the best 3 days of my life learning how to dive as well as discovering the beauty of the underwater world.

GO check out my video

During the three dives that we got to do I was able to observe in such a large range the fauna that we are most of the time we may not be aware.

The palm cards with the most of the fauna that we observed are shown here.

  • Nudibranchs

  • Fishes

  • Corals

We also were really lucky to see one humongous Olive Sea Snake. Another group of diver saw two olive sea snake mating (unfortunately I didn't see them but we saw so many sharks)

Nudibranchs:

What are Nudibranchs:

Members of the sea slug family, these shell less molluscs feature some of the most unique shapes, colours, and patterns of any animal. Nudibranchs are oblong-shaped creatures that can be thick or flattened, long or short, ornately coloured or drab to fit in with their surroundings. They could be as small as 0.25 inch or as large as 12 inch in length.

Their Behaviours:

They are carnivores that graze on algae, sponges, anemones, corals, barnacles, and even other nudibranchs as they slowly move around their area. They have two highly sensitive tentacles on top of their heads called rhinophores that help them recognise prey. Nudibranchs get their colour from the food they eat, which helps them blend in with their surroundings, and some even keep their prey's foul-tasting toxins and secrete them as a defence against predators.

Nudibranchs are hermaphrodites who can mate with any other mature member of their species at the same time. They have a wide range of lifespans, with some living for less than a month and others lasting for up to a year.

Here are some Facts about Nudibranchs!!

Acknowledgement of country

I would like to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people as the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community.

I would like to also pay my respect to elders past, present and emerging and stand together with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders leaders of today and tomorrow.
